Nutrition for asthma

General description of the disease

The respiratory system has a disease such as asthma. Its attacks occur when a foreign body or any allergen, cold or humid air, gets through the trachea into the lungs, as a result of physical exertion, causing irritation of the mucous membrane in the respiratory tract, followed by blockage and the onset of suffocation. It is this condition that is called asthma.

Free breathing in this disease is happy minutes for the patient. When an attack occurs, the bronchi spasm, the lumen narrows, preventing the free flow of air. Now more than half of all asthma cases are diagnosed in children under the age of 10. Most often, this disease occurs in men. Also, doctors note the hereditary component of this disease. Asthma is the most common among smokers.

In most cases of asthma patients, it is impossible to predict the duration of the attack and the severity of the disease. Sometimes seizures threaten a person’s life and health if medical assistance is not provided on time.

Asthma symptoms can include:

  • wheezing;
  • feeling of panic;
  • difficulty breathing out;
  • sweating;
  • painless chest tightness;
  • dry cough.

Severe asthma is characterized by the following symptoms:

  • it is difficult for a person to finish a phrase due to severe shortness of breath;
  • wheezing becomes almost inaudible, since very little air passes through the respiratory tract;
  • lack of oxygen leads to blue lips, tongue, fingers and toes;
  • confusion and coma.

To modern approaches in the treatment of asthma, doctors refer to a mandatory examination for the detection of allergens, training in response and self-help in case of asthma attacks, and the selection of medications. There are two main forms of medication – rapid-acting symptom relief and control medication.

Healthy foods for asthma

Doctors recommend that asthmatics follow a strict diet. If foods are allergens, then they must be completely excluded from the diet. Food is best steamed, boiled, baked or stewed after boiling. It is also recommended that some products be pretreated. For example, potatoes are soaked for 12-14 hours before cooking, vegetables and cereals are soaked for 1-2 hours, and meat is double-boiled.

The purpose of the diet is:

  • normalization of immunity;
  • decrease in the level of inflammation;
  • stabilization of mast cell membranes;
  • reduction of bronchospasm;
  • elimination of foods that provoke seizures from the diet;
  • restoration of the sensitivity of the bronchial mucosa;
  • decreased intestinal permeability to food allergens.

Doctors recommend eating:

  • ghee, flaxseed, corn, rapeseed, sunflower, soybean and olive oil as a source of omega-3 and omega-9 fatty acids;
  • Apples are an affordable source of pectin that can be eaten raw or baked, in applesauce or baked with other foods.
  • green vegetables: cabbage, squash, zucchini, parsley, young green peas, dill, green beans, light pumpkin – which are an excellent medicine for relaxing spasmodic smooth muscles of the bronchi;
  • whole grains, lentils, brown rice, sesame seeds, cottage cheese, hard cheeses – provide the body with the necessary amount of dietary calcium, phosphorus, magnesium and help to reduce the permeability of the intestinal mucosa and normalize metabolic processes;
  • citrus fruits are rich in vitamin C and help in the fight against free radicals, which accumulate in the walls of the bronchi and lead to an allergic reaction;
  • pears, plums, light cherries, white and red currants, gooseberries – are bioflavonoids and neutralize the oxidative process in the body;
  • carrots, bell peppers, broccoli, tomatoes, leafy greens – rich in beta-carotene and selenium and support the body, increasing its immunity;
  • cereals (except semolina) – a source of vitamin E, fill the body with products of an oxidative reaction;
  • yoghurts without fruit additives, mild cheese varieties – a source of calcium and zinc, so necessary for asthma patients;
  • the liver is not only an excellent blood-forming product, but also an excellent source of copper, an important component of the normal functioning of the whole organism;
  • cereals, second-grade wheat bread, legumes, pumpkin seeds, cereal breads, simple drying, corn and rice flakes – helps to restore the body’s normal immune reactivity and enrich it with zinc;
  • lean meats of beef, rabbit, pork, horse meat, turkey are rich in phosphorus and protein animal products, and also contain the dietary fiber necessary for our body.

The basis of the diet for asthma is:

  • vegetarian soups;
  • porridge;
  • lean borscht cooked in water;
  • boiled or steamed meat;
  • calcined cottage cheese;
  • vinaigrette;
  • vegetable and fruit salads;
  • mashed potatoes;
  • casseroles;
  • vegetable cutlets;
  • fresh raw vegetables;
  • fruit;
  • decoctions of oats and rose hips;
  • vegetable oil.

If signs of asthma or hypersensitivity to food are detected, an individual menu should be drawn up and gradually expanded as you recover.

Traditional medicine for asthma

But unconventional methods of treatment promise not only the cessation of asthma attacks, but also a complete cure for this disease with prolonged use of recipes:

  • to stop seizures, you can eat a ripe warmed up banana, sprinkled with black pepper;
  • an infusion of pine green cones and pine resin helps;
  • all types of asthmatic attacks are treated with a mixture of crushed rhizomes of turmeric and honey;
  • drops of hydrogen peroxide;
  • the Jerusalem artichoke infusion perfectly helps with asthma;

Dangerous and harmful foods for asthma

Products in this category are at risk for asthmatics. They must either be completely excluded from the diet, or be eaten in dosage.

They include:

  • fish – herring, mackerel, salmon, sardines and nuts – walnuts, cashews, Brazilian nuts, almonds, which, although rich in omega-3 and omega-9 fatty acids, can cause severe bronchial spasms;
  • semolina, pasta;
  • whole milk and sour cream;
  • yoghurts with fruit additives;
  • early vegetables – they require mandatory preliminary soaking, as they may contain pesticides harmful to the body;
  • chickens;
  • lingonberries, cranberries, blackberries – rich in irritating mucous acid;
  • pure butter;
  • bread of the highest grades;
  • rich broths that contain heavy metal salts, mercury and arsenic compounds;
  • spicy pickles, fried foods – irritating to the intestines and mucous membranes;
  • smoked meats and spices;
  • sausages and gastronomic products – rich in nitrites and food additives;
  • eggs are the most “asthmogenic” product;
  • refractory fats and margarine containing trans fats;
  • yeast, cocoa, coffee, sour;
  • marshmallows, chocolate, caramel, chewing gum, muffins, marshmallows, cakes, fresh baked goods – due to the large number of artificial ingredients;
  • table salt – which is a source of water retention in the body, which can cause severe attacks for asthmatics;

Allergic attitudes can be reduced if food or inhalation allergens are known. These include:

  • pollen of grasses – food grains;
  • sunflower pollen – sunflower seeds;
  • hazel pollen – nuts;
  • daphnia – crabs, crayfish, shrimps;
  • wormwood pollen – food mustard or mustard plasters.

Cross-food allergies also occur:

  • carrots – parsley, celery;
  • potatoes – tomatoes, eggplants, peppers;
  • strawberries – blackberries, raspberries, currants, lingonberries;
  • legumes – mango, peanuts;
  • beets – spinach.

It is important to identify these food cross-allergens right away to avoid seizures. Even if allergens are identified only to plant products, the diet should not contain a large amount of animal protein, since it is the foreign proteins of the bacterial, household or food direction that are the main provocateurs of asthma attacks.

  1. Tous les articles et études que je lis concernant l’alimentation et l’asthme préconisent de manger du poisson gras type saumon et vous vous le mettez dans les aliments “dangereux”, pouvez vous m’expliquer pourquoi ?

    Merci
