Cocktail Mai Tai (Mai Tai)

History of the Mai Tai

There are two rather controversial versions of the appearance of the Mai Tai cocktail.

According to one of them, the cocktail was invented by one of the bartenders of the Trader Vic restaurant chain, made in the Pacific style, and got its name from a group of Tahitians who first tried it.

Drinking a cocktail, the Tahitians now and then exclaimed: “Mai Tai roa ae”, which roughly means: “The end of the world – there is nothing better!” and refers to the established Thai phraseological units. As a result, the name was shortened to the usual “Mai Tai”.

Another version says that the cocktail was invented by two people.

One of them is Victor Bergeron, the founder of the Trader Vic restaurant chain. The other person was a certain Don Vici.

The creators wanted to achieve a tropical taste from the cocktail, but in such a way that everyone could afford it.

For these purposes, rum was taken as an alcoholic cocktail base. Initially, the composition of the drink included only white rum, but later they began to use a mixture of different types of rum.

The Mai Tai cocktail has several variations based on the substitution of rum varieties. However, the real one is Mai Tai, made on the basis of two varieties. This version of the cocktail is perhaps the most expensive mass cocktail in the world.
