In America, chips were printed on a 3D printer

Yes, yes, just regular potato chips and exactly on 3D printer… Moreover, they have been doing this over the past few years. But the results were not encouraging – either the chips came out too small, then the wrong shape. And finally, the chips are printed “just right” – grooved, thick and crunchy. The chips are called Deep Ridged.

The initiator of this process is the American company Frito-Lay. And the technology itself was developed by the American multinational company PepsiCo.

The most inexpensive printers were used to print chips, and this was done on purpose, so as not to increase the cost of the product for the consumer.

Behind this interesting innovation is a team of researchers who, in the process of finding the perfect chips, created as many as 27 realistic models – with different waviness and crest lengths. We stopped at nine. They were prepared, packaged and tested with consumers.

How soon can we test the chips that came out of 3D printer, time will tell. But experts say that in the next 3-5 years, fully automated 3D printers for printing food products will appear in the world.
