How to remove gel coat and eyelashes at home yourself

We share proven and effective ways.

Visits to the usual beauty masters are now impossible: there can be no talk of salon procedures. But what about overgrown gel-coated nails and artificial eyelashes? We share life hacks for self-removal of shellac and eyelash extensions, as well as for hair removal at home.

How to remove the gel coat

  1. Before getting rid of the coating, you need to correct the length of the nails. Scissors will not cope with the density of the material; better arm yourself with nail tweezers.

  2. For the following manipulations, you will need foil, cotton pads and nail polish remover containing acetone (although this is harmful, it is also necessary, since oil textures will not cope). After you have slightly trimmed the nails, process each with a coarse file. But be extremely careful – do not damage the layer of the native nail, as well as the cuticle and skin on the finger.

  3. Then we cut the cotton pad in half, soak it generously with nail polish remover, wrap the nail. Close the top tightly with foil – cut it into squares in advance. And we keep it for 40-50 minutes. During this time, the coating will dissolve and become jelly-like in consistency.

  4. Carefully remove the resin remaining on the nail with an orange stick. Moreover, this must be done quite quickly, otherwise the resin will harden again and the whole procedure will have to be repeated. Therefore, remove the foil one by one: finished with one finger, grab the other.

  5. Wash hands with soap, apply nourishing cream and cuticle oil. Your nails are free!

How to remove eyelash extensions

The most important thing is not to try to cut them off or even more to tear them off. In the first case, there is a risk (and suddenly the hand trembles) to inflict a terrible injury on oneself, and in the second – to be left without eyelashes altogether. There are more reliable methods. Remember the master’s warning about using oil-based cosmetics. The oil will dissolve the glue and should be avoided if you want to preserve your eyelash extensions.

In this case, the opposite is true. You can take any vegetable oil – olive or sunflower, but castor or burdock is considered the best. These oils not only help remove false eyelashes, but also nourish your own. And after the build-up procedure, the make-up is very necessary!

  1. Warm up the oil a little (be sure to check the temperature before applying to the eyelid), apply with a cotton swab to the root zone of growth.

  2. Repeat after 10 minutes. Then moisten the halves of a cotton pad with oil and apply to the lower eyelids.

  3. Close your eyes and take a half hour nap. You can massage your eyelids a little.

  4. Then, armed with a clean mascara brush, gently comb through your lashes. Spoiler: artificial ones will stay on the brush.

If you are an opponent of shaving machines, you do not have an epilator, the wax strips are over and this is the last thing for which you dare to rush to the store, then sugaring is ideal for you. And you can make the pasta yourself.

How to make classic sugar paste

To do this, you need 2 cups of sugar, a quarter of a glass of water and the same amount of lemon juice. Mix everything in a small saucepan and put on low heat. Cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring constantly. As soon as the mass turns yellow, keep it for a couple of minutes and remove it from the stove. It is very easy to check the readiness: take a little pasta with a teaspoon and add it to a glass of cold water. If the tested paste has hardened and become like wax, then hurray, it is ready.

By the way, do not forget to peel a couple of days before epilation. You should not scrub the skin on the eve of the procedure, you will unnecessarily injure the skin.

  1. Before direct shugaring, take a hot shower to steam the skin a little and open the hair follicles.

  2. Apply the toner, wipe dry and start applying.

  3. You can use a special cosmetic spatula or your own hands. Apply against hair growth, and after 30–40 seconds, sharply pull the paste along the growth! When jerking, hold the skin and do not tear vertically, that is, upward.

  4. After walking over the entire surface, wash off the remnants of the paste and treat the skin with an antiseptic or thermal water. And no oils, lotions, creams during the day!

Editorial advice

And what do we do after removing eyelashes and gel polish …

After removing your eyelash extensions, I recommend that you pay attention to caring for your weakened eyelashes. An ideal lash firming serum is ideal for this and must be applied daily before bed. I also advise you to give your eyes a break from makeup. At least for the duration of the quarantine.

For nails, medicated coatings and growth aids can be applied. The result will be noticeable within a few weeks: the nails will stop flaking and will be stronger.
