How to grow legumes in the country

It is not in vain that people have been growing legumes for 5000 years. An important source of protein, they are 1,5-2 times more nutritious than potatoes.

A sunny area should be allocated for legumes. Before sowing, it is good to fertilize the beds with wood ash. And in order for the plant to bear fruit for a long time, it is necessary to remove the fruits in a timely manner.

Heat demanding. Beans are planted in heated, not lower than 10 degrees, ground. Sowed every 7-10 cm to a depth of 2 cm, in rows, with a width of 45-60 cm between them. The grooves are preliminarily watered. For curly varieties, a support is needed, as which you can use sticks, rods, ropes stretched on posts, wire mesh.

Favorite varieties of summer residents: “Winner” – a variety of climbing, high-yielding ornamental plant, it can be used as a hedge. “Saksa 615” is an early ripening asparagus variety. “Pation” – early, with an elegant variegated color of seeds.

The seeds of the beans are very large, so there is no need for too careful cutting of the land on the site. Plants in the garden can be arranged in one or two rows. When growing undersized varieties, the beans are placed according to the 20 × 20 cm scheme. The taller varieties are in rows of 10-12 cm, the row spacing is 45 cm. 7-8 seeds each, as well as in the rows of cucumbers. Tall varieties need trellis supports. To do this, at the ends of the rows, stakes with a height of 1-2 m are hammered into the ground. Twine is pulled on them every 0,9 cm.

Favorite varieties of summer residents: “Russian Black” – early ripening variety, dark purple seeds. “Belorusskie” is a mid-season variety, the seeds are dark yellow. “Windsor Greens” – early maturing, the seeds are very large, green.

Band sowing is recommended. Each belt has three rows, located every 12–15 cm. The distance between two adjacent belts is 45 cm. Seeds are sown in rows every 10–15 cm to a depth of 5–6 cm. Although it is customary to grow peas without support, the yield increases significantly. when the stems are not on the ground. In early ripening varieties, 12 weeks pass from sowing to harvesting, in later varieties – up to 16.

Favorite varieties of summer residents: “Sugar Brain” – very juicy. Meteor is suitable for freezing. “Sugar snap” – tall, up to 180 cm, plant with thick pods. Even if they dry out, the peas remain tender and sweet.
