How to eat properly in transport

The holiday season and planned trips are in full swing. And often even the most thoughtful road can be overshadowed by improperly selected food – there is either not enough food, or a lot, or all of it is completely unsuitable for the transport you choose.

The road itself is a source of colossal stress: not to forget something and not to lose the children and calm them down. And nutrition is the last item on the list. But it is still advisable to think over the menu and meal times in order to avoid disastrous consequences.

Ground transportation

Ground food will not bring any surprises in the taste of ordinary familiar food – and this is a plus. The main thing is to stock up on food containers and correctly arrange food – either for each participant in the trip, or according to food groups. Of course, products should not quickly deteriorate and change their taste due to the heat, as well as cause inconvenience – dripping, staining clothes, slipping. These are, for example, sandwiches with boiled chicken breast, hard boiled egg. It is better to take fresh vegetables separately and preferably not chopped – this way they will preserve freshness and vitamins: cucumber, bell pepper, carrots.

In airplane

A long flight is difficult in terms of nutrition. In the air at an altitude of thousands of meters, food changes its taste and texture, which makes it hardly edible. Onboard food may also not suit you – you need to choose a snack, if such an opportunity is available, in advance, having studied the menu on the airline’s website.

It is important to eat right before your flight – for example, at the airport while waiting for your flight. Take sandwiches with tuna or chicken, salad with chickpeas or lentils – it will fill you for a long time.

Bring a container of vegetables or sandwiches on board, if allowed by the airline.

End point of arrival

Once in another area and even a country, do not rush to feast on local fast food in a fit of hunger. You do not know what kind of cuisine, water, hygiene there is, so it is safer to have a snack with familiar fruits, vegetables or leftover food you have taken with you.

If you decide to eat in a cafe or restaurant, take a closer look at the portions – they can be significantly different in size from what you are used to. Maybe one is enough for you two?

Order familiar meats and vegetables, no delicacies, until you adapt to the local culinary flavor.

Remember to drink plenty of water as it filters out toxins and helps you stay hydrated.

The risk of being in the hospital at the very beginning of the journey is very high, especially carefully monitor the nutrition of children and elderly people – their bodies cope with a long journey and unfamiliar food longer.
