Ezhemalina is a hybrid variety that was developed by crossing raspberries and blackberries. The plant has retained its taste characteristics, is drought-resistant and winter-hardy.

Description of the most productive varieties of ezhemalina

Ezhemalina has absorbed the best qualities of raspberries and blackberries. The fruits are large, juicy, but sour. Basically, the bushes are thornless, they live for a long time. In one place they can grow up to 10-15 years. The yield is up to 9 kg of berries, and yogurt bears fruit until the autumn frosts. She is not afraid of diseases and pests.

The bushes are not only distinguished by good fruiting, but also by a beautiful appearance. The berries are large, up to 4 cm in size.

Popular varieties:

  • Darrow. The yield is up to 10 kg of berries. The bushes are high, up to 3 m in height, the shoots are straight. The berries are purple-red, weighing up to 4 g.
  • Tayberry. The berries are large, dark red, elongated. Fruits ripen in mid-August. There are thorns on the shoots. The variety has a high yield, disease and pest resistance.
  • Loganberry. A variety of creeping thornless ezhemalina. Berries weighing up to 8 g and up to 3 cm long, red in color, when ripe, acquire a darker shade. The fruits ripen early. In reviews of the description of this variety, the Yazhmalins say that the yield is up to 6 kg per bush. Berries are collected in a brush of 5-6 pieces.
  • Boysenberry. The berries are large, weighing up to 12 g, oval, dark cherry color. They taste like blackberries, very aromatic. There are two varieties of the variety – thornless and prickly.

So that the fruiting of the yogurt does not deteriorate, it is necessary to fertilize the bushes with rotted compost annually. Any organic fertilizer is desirable before flowering. In spring, sanitary pruning is needed, be sure to tie up long shoots to a trellis.

Ezhemalina varieties “Silvan” and “Cumberland”

These are less productive varieties, but they require attention:

  • Silvan. Creeping shoots, there are thorns. According to the characteristics of the berries, the variety is similar to “Tayberry”. The fruits ripen from July to mid-August. Productivity up to 4 kg per bush.
  • Cumberland. One of the most winter-hardy varieties. Bushes up to 2 m in height, shoots are thick, curved, they have thorns. The advantages of ezhemalina – the bushes do not give growth, they are resistant to all diseases.

Breeders are constantly working on the development of new, more advanced varieties.

When growing this fruit shrub, pay attention to formative pruning, especially for tall, spreading varieties. When the bush reaches a height of 2,5 m, pinch the tops. This procedure stimulates the growth of side shoots and, accordingly, fruiting.

Pay enough attention to the bushes, and you will harvest from them a great harvest of fragrant berries.
