Eclampsia

General description of the disease

Eclampsia is a disease that occurs in the third trimester of pregnancy or in the first 24 hours after childbirth. At this time, the maximum possible increase in blood pressure is observed, the level of which is deadly for the mother and child (if prenatal eclampsia occurs). It is the most severe and complex form of gestosis (toxicosis).

Eclampsia occurs in 3 such forms:

  1. 1 typical – typical for pregnant hypersthenics, during eclampsia of this type, large swelling of the subcutaneous layer of fiber, soft tissues in internal organs appears, there is increased intracranial pressure, hypertension and severe albuminuria (protein is excreted in the urine);
  2. 2 atypical – occurs in women with an unstable, emotional psyche during prolonged labor; during the course, there is swelling of the brain, increased intracranial pressure, accompanied by varying and moderate hypertension (edema of the subcutaneous layer of tissue, organ tissues, albuminuria is not observed);
  3. 3 uremic – the basis of this form is nephritis, which was before pregnancy or developed already during pregnancy; mainly women with asthenic body composition suffer; during eclampsia of this type, excess fluid is collected in the chest, abdominal cavity, and fluid can also accumulate in the fetal bladder (while there is no other edema).

General symptoms of eclampsia:

  • fast weight gain (due to fluid retention in the body);
  • convulsions of a generalized and local nature;
  • seizures portend signs such as high blood pressure (140 to 90 mm Hg), severe headaches, abdominal pain, blurred vision;
  • the duration of one seizure is equal to 2 minutes, which consists of 4 stages: preconvulsive, the stage of seizures of the tonic type, then the stage of clonic seizures and the fourth stage – the stage of “resolution of the seizure”;
  • cyanosis;
  • loss of consciousness;
  • dizziness, severe nausea and vomiting;
  • proteinuria;
  • swelling;
  • arterial hypertension;
  • thrombocytopenia, renal failure, impaired liver function may develop.

The causes of eclampsia:

  1. 1 the age of the first pregnancy (up to 18 years old or after 40 years old);
  2. 2 the presence of trophoblastic disease, infections, kidney problems;
  3. 3 eclampsia in the family and in previous pregnancies;
  4. 4 non-observance of hygiene and medical prescriptions during pregnancy;
  5. 5 excess weight;
  6. 6 a long time interval between childbirth (more than 10 years);
  7. 7 multiple pregnancies;
  8. 8 diabetes;
  9. 9 arterial hypertension.

In order to diagnose eclampsia on time, you must:

  • conduct constant monitoring of changes in blood pressure and weight;
  • do urine tests (look at the level of protein), blood (for the presence of hemostasis, creatinine, uric acid and urea);
  • monitor the degree of liver enzymes using a biochemical blood test.

Healthy foods for eclampsia

During seizures, there should be a starvation diet, if the patient is conscious, then she can be given fruit juice or sweet tea. After 3-4 days after the cessation of the seizures of eclampsia, delivery is indicated. You need to adhere to the following nutritional principles:

  • the dose of table salt should not exceed 5 grams per day;
  • the injected liquid should not be more than 0,8 liters;
  • the body must receive the required amount of proteins (this is due to its large loss);
  • in order to normalize the metabolism, it is necessary to do fasting days in this order: curd day (per day you need to eat 0,5-0,6 kg of cottage cheese and 100 grams of sour cream in 6 receptions), compote (drink 1,5 liters of compote per day, about glass after 2 hours), apple (eat applesauce 5-6 times a day from ripe apples, peeled and pitted, you can add a small amount of sugar).

After the fasting day, there should be the so-called “half” day (this means that the doses of common meals for consumption are divided in half). If fasting days are hard for a pregnant woman, then you can add a couple of crackers or a few pieces of dried bread.

Every fasting day must be observed at weekly intervals.

Traditional medicine for eclampsia

With eclampsia, the patient needs inpatient treatment, constant care and supervision, complete rest, it is necessary to eliminate all possible stimuli (visual, tactile, auditory, light).

Traditional medicine can be used for toxicosis and gestosis during pregnancy.

Dangerous and harmful foods for eclampsia

  • salty, pickled, fatty, fried foods;
  • spicy dishes and seasonings;
  • semi-finished products, fast food, fast food;
  • alcoholic and carbonated drinks;
  • shop sweets, pastry cream;
  • trans fats;
  • other non-living food.

This list of products negatively affects the functioning of the liver and kidneys, contributes to the occurrence of blood clots, blockages of blood vessels, which provokes a sharp increase in blood pressure.
