Dangerous Products: Parasites, List of Dangerous Products

The worst thing is not to bite off an apple and find a worm, but to see its half. But it’s even worse to eat your favorite dish, get poisoned, and then find out that you are someone’s home, and the most unpleasant-looking aliens are building a nest in you. Who can you pick up while eating a steak, light salad, or just relaxing at the resort? Therapist Denis Prokofiev told Woman’s Day about the strangers living inside us.

World Health Organization experts sound the alarm – unsafe food is the cause of death of approximately two million people every year.

Pathogenic bacteria, viruses, parasites contained in food cause more than 200 diseases. At least 56 million people worldwide suffer from one or more foodborne flukes, resulting from the consumption of raw fish, crustaceans or vegetables containing the parasite’s larvae.

What product can play a cruel joke on the consumer? As it turned out, almost anyone.

A rare refrigerator will do without these products. What we do with them and wherever we put them. And sometimes we don’t even cook the eggs – we beat them and send them to desserts like tiramisu or undercooked on purpose.

And in vain! It is the chicken meat and eggs of these birds that most often transmit to us the bacteria Salmonella, which causes severe poisoning and can be bedridden for 2-7 days or even ensure a hospital stay.

If contaminated meat or eggs hit your table and you washed them badly, and then did not finish cooking, there will be trouble. Yes, yes, eggs need to be washed, if anyone did not know.

We smashed an egg, whose shells are covered with manure, into a creamy sauce, and hello, salmonella! You can protect yourself from this scourge only by observing the rules of hygiene and preparation. The bacterium dies only at very high temperatures.

They are friends of all girls, and also lamblia – microscopic protozoa that can cause many inconveniences.

You can become infected with giardiasis by eating food contaminated with their cysts – vegetables, berries, fruits, herbs, or simply through dirty hands. So think ten times before trying a tomato in the market or picking an apple in the park.

Once in the gastrointestinal tract, lamblia begin to multiply actively and cause severe irritation of the mucous membrane.

You can drive them away, but you have to see a doctor. And henceforth, thoroughly wash all vegetables, fruits and hands after them, so as not to pick up either lamblia or ascaris.

By the way, about roundworms, get acquainted, they are worms 20-25 centimeters long and parasitize in the small intestine. They enter the body in the same way as their simplest girlfriends. But they first live in the intestines, and then move to the lymphatic and blood vessels, liver, heart, bronchi.

Are you suffering from a strange pain in your stomach, nausea, nausea, and everything itches? These are symptoms of intoxication, it is worth checking for ascariasis.

Favorite river gifts are rich not only in vitamins, but also in fluke worms – flukes.

Initially, the carrier of this misfortune is a freshwater snail, then freshwater fish or crustaceans, and then animals that feed on them, or people.

You can get such a tenant by eating its intermediate owner, for example, having dined on raw fish at a sushi bar or at home.

The suckers are very different, but they are all equally unhelpful. Some parasitize in the liver, causing inflammation, others in the gallbladder, and still others settle in the tissues of the lungs and even in the brain.

You can get rid of parasites, but it is better not to meet with them and cook the fish correctly – fry and cook for at least 30 minutes!

Even this dietary meat can be dangerous. Alas, but on cute cows, bovine tapeworm often parasitizes – a worm whose appearance is terrifying.

It can be over 10 meters long! It sounds creepy, but true. And, as in the case of fish, it is very easy to add such a villain to yourself – it is enough to eat contaminated meat, insufficiently heat-treated, salted or jerky.

A bull tapeworm can live inside a person for years, there were cases when the owner found out about the “guest” only 25 years later. That is why you should listen to your body, undergo regular medical examinations for your own peace of mind and cook correctly!

In Soviet times, there was a horror story – eat bacon with red specks, and you will have a tapeworm. The creepy story is partly true.

Pork tapeworm or pork tapeworm is a type of giant tapeworm that lives in pigs and humans.

Infection, as in other cases, occurs when eating raw or doubtfully cooked meat. Sometimes, patients experience impaired appetite, abdominal pain, nausea, and weight loss. But most often the disease is asymptomatic.

What is the main danger, because infection can lead to a serious illness – cysticercosis, when the larvae of the worm begin to migrate to the subcutaneous tissues, eyes and brain. Severe forms can only be cured by surgery.

Even iron and glass jars can get a terrible attack – the bacterium Clostridium botulinum, which is the causative agent of botulism.

The disease is a form of severe intoxication and can be fatal.

How does it get into pickles? The bacterium lives in the soil, and cucumbers or mushrooms can grow on it, which are then rolled into jars. And in this space deprived of oxygen, the bacterium will wake up and begin to produce poison. Acid can kill her. But how do you know if the growers have added enough vinegar to the mushrooms? Alas, you won’t know.

However, you should not be afraid of canned food like fire. Botulism is rare. To prevent it, products from cans need to be boiled and thoroughly examined.

The lid fell off too easily, the brine is unclear, the product is covered with something, does it smell strange when cooking? You better throw it away! And if you still ate questionable canned food and feel unwell, call an ambulance.

From vacation you can bring not only pleasant impressions, but also stowaways. For example, blood flukes that cause schistosomiasis.

Infection occurs imperceptibly. The vacationer walks barefoot along the beach or swims in the river, then returns home and begins to itch. The skin itches and becomes covered with strange red stripes, like ant paths. Guess whose antics it is? Those flukes.

Schistosomiasis is common in tropical and subtropical regions. To become infected, it is enough to plunge into the habitat of the parasites – walk barefoot on the sand or cool off in the reservoir where the larvae live. Flukes imperceptibly dig into the skin of the feet and then settle, leaving a trail behind them. And causing allergies.

The disease is unpleasant, but curable. And in order not to suffer from it, it is enough to simply wear special shoes for the beach and swimming.

Another “surprise” can be brought in from countries such as Ethiopia, Bangladesh, Congo, Indonesia, Tanzania, Myanmar, India, Nepal, Nigeria and the Philippines. Lymphatic filariasis, or elephantiasis, is common there.

The disease is carried by mosquitoes already infected with the roundworm of the Filarioidea family. One bite of a sick mosquito, and the worms settle in the lymphatic system, and then the limbs begin to ache, swell and swell, like the legs of an elephant. Filariasis often leads to disability, especially in poor countries.

No matter how terrible the statistics are, you can reduce the risk and protect yourself from “strangers”.

Therapist Denis Prokofiev:

“All these terrible diseases can be successfully treated, especially at an early stage. There are many drugs for this. But, alas, there is no one hundred percent protection against parasitic infections. With the development of any of these diseases, a similar clinical picture arises: stool disturbance, abdominal pain, fever, pulse rate, vomiting.

You can significantly reduce the likelihood of becoming a home for an outsider living creature if you follow simple rules. Any food should be well thermally processed, it is better to be overcooked than undercooked, washed, bought not by hand, but in a store. Drink only boiled water, not from a river or source, milk is only pasteurized. Store food correctly: meat, fish, vegetables and chicken should be on different freezer shelves, in different bags. Get in the habit of not preparing meals with a large supply – for the whole week, they can go bad. If your menu includes products such as milk, yoghurts, sour cream, buy them in small packages so that they do not stand open in the refrigerator for several days. Open sour cream is a great home for bacteria. Do not open anything with your teeth! Even the skin of a banana should not be removed by biting into it. It is very dangerous. How do you know where this banana lay, who touched it? If the product has the slightest change in color or smell – feel free to throw it away. “

· If in the restaurant you are served meat or poultry with a reddish tint, you can see pink “juice” – refuse the dish. It is not ready, which means it is dangerous.

· Harmful microorganisms are killed only at high temperatures. If you are cooking, say, fish soup and adding canned fish, it should boil in the broth along with all the other ingredients.

· In the refrigerator, raw food should not be adjacent to cooked food.

· The knives you use to cut meat or fish are not suitable for fruit and bread.

· If you have washed raw meat, poultry, fish in the sink, the sink and the space between it and the countertop must be treated with antibacterial cleaning agents.
