Common interview mistakes – how to avoid them

😉 Greetings to everyone who wandered into this site! Friends, many people make typical mistakes during an interview, perhaps out of excitement. The interview is the most difficult test for a candidate. This standard procedure is very important, because it depends on its results whether you will be hired.

The average interview time is considered to be 40 minutes. At the same time, in every third case, the impression formed about the candidate in the first minute and a half of the interview will not change until the end of the conversation.

The first impression comes from the competent speech of the interlocutor, from what he says, from how he dresses.

Common interview mistakes – how to avoid them

Many candidates (job seekers), especially at the beginning of their career, are afraid of the interview. If you are not afraid, you will be able to confidently conduct a dialogue and demonstrate your personal qualities in the best possible way.

Note that the interview is a peer-to-peer dialogue. The applicant should not look like a petitioner at the interview and shrink in fear at every uncomfortable question.

It often happens that a candidate just brilliantly answers questions in his specialty. But at the same time, he is still not hired. Why? Most likely, he made some other mistake during the interview.

Interview errors:

Common interview mistakes – how to avoid them

Delayed

Are you late for your interview? Blame yourself. Often, in addition to you, the employer has several more potential employees. So do not be offended if, after being late, you are simply not accepted.

Apparel

They are greeted by clothes. Your appearance tells a lot about you. The style of dress should be appropriate for the position you will be occupying.

It is easiest to choose the most basic option: a white blouse, black skirt / pants, or a dark trouser suit. And no stilettos or sneakers! Neatness is welcome!

Lying is a bad helper

The worst thing is to lie about your professionalism and experience. Even if you are accepted for a trial period, your lack of experience will become noticeable from the first days. So you better tell the truth about yourself.

About past work

Answers do not fit at all: “bad team, I became uninteresting and bored there, I didn’t get along with my boss”. Even if this is true, it is better to give a specific explanation: I want an increase in wages, career growth.

You should never speak badly about your previous job and remember about conflicts. The employer will consider that the problem worker is not needed by the organization. And in this case, even the most excellent track record will not save you.

Salary

Your employer should start the conversation about money, not you.

If at the interview you are forced to name the amount of a suitable salary, then give a prepared answer. To do this, before the interview, try to find out how much the employees of this company are paid on average. Information about the average pay for your position in the labor market will also help you.

If you are applying for a higher salary, you must justify your claims.

Uncertainty

Uncertainty will lead the employer to think that you are lying or embellishing your merits.

Remember that a sense of proportion is very important here again. If you are moderately modest, then this will characterize you as a responsible and executive employee. And if modesty is completely absent in you, then this is a big minus.

Where is the smile?

A less common mistake, but with the same reason and strong negative consequences, is that the candidate does not smile during the interview. Most likely, the candidate just feels uncomfortable, for the interlocutor he seems to be a boring, gloomy person.

Look in the eyes!

The most common mistake is considered if the applicant does not look into the eyes of the interlocutor, avoids meeting glances, hides his eyes. This can be mistaken for trying to hide something.

The applicant does not know anything about the company in which he is looking for a job

This is an unforgivable mistake! If, before the interview, the candidate did not find out the basic information about the company. What does it do, how many people (approximately) work in it, perhaps the history or peculiarities of the company’s work.

To do this, just look at the company’s website, especially the section “about the company”. It may take only a few minutes.

Here are the most common interview mistakes that jobseekers make. Try to avoid them and at the same time demonstrate your high professional and personal qualities. You will definitely have every chance of getting a good position.
