How often to change baby’s diaper?

To avoid redness and diaper rash, it is important to change the child at least 5 times a day, and as often as necessary (after a bowel movement of course but also after urination). Because urine and stool are acidic and carry bacteria that irritate the very fragile skin of the little one. Check regularly that the layer model that you are used to buying is always the right size for the toddler. Do not hesitate to test different brands. They do not all have the same absorbency or the same shape.

Where to settle down to change baby’s diaper?

Once your hands have been washed well and your toiletries prepared, support your baby’s neck and place him on his back on his changing table. It must be adjusted to the right height so that you avoid any discomfort during this moment of softness. Of course, throughout this operation, never leave your baby. If you are outside your home, on a mop or on a trip, plan to travel with a nomadic changing mat or mat that you will install on a flat and secure surface.

How to remove the baby’s diaper?

Then you can slightly lift her buttocks to bring the front of the diaper underneath. This is the most direct and fast method. To avoid soiling the baby and the bath towel, the easiest way is to roll the diaper on itself while lowering the clean front part, towards the baby’s bottom, removing as much stool as possible.

Your baby may get them dirty if he wriggles a lot. Likewise, lift his body high, but do not leave your infant shirtless, he cools very quickly. If he’s naked, at least cover him with a towel.

How to clean your baby’s seat?

With the aid ofgant, a hypoallergenic wipe, or a cotton pad covered with liniment or cleansing milk, gently clean your child’s seat, from front to back. Do not forget the upper belly, the folds of the thighs and the crotch, because urine and stools can macerate and irritate your baby’s delicate skin. Then, use an angle of the bath towel placed under the baby to gently dry the folds.

  • For a little boy

 Rinse your glove or change the wipe to clean his stomach (up to the navel), his penis, his testicles and the folds of his groin.

  • For a little girl

Touch her lips and her vulva, then lightly press your gesture into the folds of the groin. Finish by washing her stomach.

 

What to do in case of redness and irritation?

Preventively or as soon as a redness appears, it is better to use a specific cream for the change. If it is a “water paste”. Spread out a good thickness to shield the acidity of the stool or urine. In the case of a preventive cream, apply a small amount and massage very gently. In case of chronic redness and oozing, do not hesitate to ask your child’s pediatrician for advice.

How do I put a clean diaper on my baby?

Unfold the clean diaper widely and slide it under the baby. Instead of lifting it by the feet, you can turn it on its side, following the child’s natural movement. Fold the front of the diaper over the child’s tummy thinking of folding the sex of the little boy down.

  • Close the scratches. Check that the elasticated folds of the diaper are well placed outward to prevent leakage, center it well in width but also between the back and the stomach. Apply the unfolded scratches flat so that they adhere perfectly.
  • At the right size. If the umbilicus has not yet fallen, you can fold the edge of the diaper back so that it does not rub against it. Check the diaper for the best fit, knowing that after a meal, the baby’s stomach may expand slightly. We must therefore leave the space of two fingers slipped at the waist.
