British chef Jamie Oliver goes bankrupt

In the UK, the restaurant chain of popular chef and TV presenter Jamie Oliver is outsourced due to bankruptcy.

Reported by The Guardian. Due to insolvency, Oliver lost 23 Jamieʼs Italian restaurants, Barbecoa and Fifteen restaurants in London, and a diner at Gatwick Airport. About 1300 people were at risk of losing their jobs.

Jamie Oliver himself said he was “deeply saddened” by the situation and thanked his employees, suppliers and customers. Now crisis management is carried out by the auditing company KPMG, which may also be looking for new owners of establishments.

Restaurants have become unprofitable since January 2017. The situation leading to bankruptcy was exacerbated by the crisis in the restaurant services market in Britain, which was caused by Brexit. Thus, ingredients for various dishes purchased by Oliver’s company in Italy have significantly increased in price due to a sharp drop in the exchange rate of the pound sterling against the euro.
