Biological analyzes in the service of disease prevention

Preventive biological assessments which question the patient’s field, via blood, urine, saliva or stool analyzes, make it possible to detect imbalances in the organism that may ultimately be the cause of pathologies. They make it possible to correct, before the onset of the disease, the parameters that are expressed too much or not enough in the patient’s body.

The classic allopathic doctor prescribes analyzes according to a pathological condition. The purpose of these analyzes is to photograph parameters that provide information on the precise state of the patient at the time when he is in pain. These analyzes are intended to improve the management of the declared disease. This medicine works mainly by organ. It focuses on the attacks undergone by the body (bacteria, viruses, etc.) without worrying too much about the attacked (the patient) and his terrain, nor his defense possibilities which at the time of the disease are already clearly outdated.

For example “when I urinate, it burns me, the doctor prescribes me a urinalysis which will be able to confirm a cystitis, for example. My white blood cells were not competent to eradicate the bacteria, I need an antibiotic. “

Preventive biology, for its part, considers the individual as a whole. She is interested in the patient’s terrain, his defensive possibilities, his immediate defenses (eg: white blood cells) but also overloads and / or deficiencies in his body (eg: fatty acids, vitamins, minerals, proteins, hormones, etc. …).

Dr Sylvie Barbier, pharmacist biologist and director of the Barbier laboratory in Metz (France) specializes in preventive biology assessments.

She introduces us to the four concepts on which this preventive biology is based:

  • The graduation : unlike traditional biology which measures iron or ferritin at an instant T and compares it to reference values, which will make the result normal or abnormal, in preventive biology, we look at the evolution.

For example, on an observation of thyroid hormones, the thyroid, in classical biology, will be declared hyper, hypo or normal; in preventive biology, we look at the limit rates, which makes it possible to straighten the bar before declaring a proven pathology.

  • The balance : in preventive biology, we observe a lot more relationships: for example, fatty acids: if we have a lot of saturated fatty acids and a lot of unsaturated fatty acids, the ratio will be good.
  • Biological individuality or each according to his genes : the genetics and history of the patient are taken into account.
  • The influence of the external environment : we take into account the patient’s environment: is he sedentary or athletic, does he live in the sun or not?

The numbers are no longer just numbers but are analyzed according to the patient and his lifestyle.
