Bhagavad Gita on different types of food

Text 17.8 The food favored by people in the mode of goodness prolongs life, purifies the mind, gives strength, health, happiness and satisfaction. It is juicy, oily, healthy, heart-pleasing food.

Text 17.9 Excessively bitter, sour, salty, spicy, spicy, dry and very hot foods are liked by people in the mode of passion. Such food is a source of grief, suffering and disease.

Text 17.10 Food prepared more than three hours before eating, tasteless, stale, rotten, impure and made from other people’s leftovers, is liked by those in the mode of darkness.

From Srila Prabhupada’s comment: Food should increase life span, purify the mind and add strength. This is her only purpose. In the past, the great sages have identified the foods that are most conducive to health and longevity: milk and dairy products, sugar, rice, wheat, fruits and vegetables. All these things please those who are in goodness… All these foods are pure in nature. They are very different from defiled food such as wine and meat…

Getting animal fats from milk, butter, cottage cheese and other dairy products, we get rid of the need to kill innocent animals. Only very cruel people can kill them.
