Astigmatism

General description of the disease

Astigmatism is an ophthalmic disease in which the shape of the lens or cornea is irregular and because of which the patient sees everything around him distorted, curved.

Depending on what is damaged, lens astigmatism (a more rare type of disease) and corneal astigmatism are isolated.

Astigmatism happens:

  1. 1 farsighted – the patient suffers from farsightedness, but in some meridians its degree is higher, and in others it is less;
  2. 2 short-sighted – a similar situation, as with farsighted astigmatism, only instead of farsightedness, in a person – myopia;
  3. 3 mixed – in some meridians there is farsightedness, and in some – myopia.

Degrees of astigmatism:

  • light (visual acuity is reduced to 3 diopters);
  • medium (3-6 diopters of difference in the axes);
  • severe (vision weakened by more than 6 diopters).

Forms and causes of the disease:

  1. 1 hereditary (congenital) – makes itself felt in the first days after birth, but sometimes it can proceed without pathologies (if visual acuity is deteriorated to 1 diopter), if higher, then there are distortions of the visible picture and the disease should be treatable and corrected;
  2. 2 acquired – occurs after suffering eye injuries, operations and after suffering ophthalmic diseases.

Symptoms typical for astigmatism:

  • there is no way to focus vision on a specific object;
  • eyes get tired quickly;
  • frequent headaches due to eye strain;
  • tearing eyes;
  • straight lines look distorted;
  • the eyeball is constantly irritated and has a reddish tint;
  • pain and pain in the eyes;
  • bifurcation, vagueness of the displayed picture;
  • discomfort in the eyes (itching, as if the eyes were covered with sand);
  • the presence of running black or bright white dots (spots).

Healthy foods for astigmatism

The conservative method of treatment is a balanced diet that includes the intake of minerals, trace elements and vitamins. Also, you need to add antioxidant foods to your diet – they have a good effect on the regeneration of the retina. So, you need to eat:

  • vegetables: pumpkin, tomatoes, carrots, cucumbers, bell peppers, cabbage, beets;
  • fruits, berries and juices, compotes, fruit drinks made from: blueberries, cranberries, grapes (especially blue and purple varieties), currants, plums, citrus fruits, cherries and cherries, melons;
  • dairy products;
  • nuts and seeds;
  • cereals;
  • meat and fish (it is better to steam, boil or stew);
  • greens: spinach, dill, parsley, celery (very useful in combination with cucumber).

Recommendations:

  1. 1 it is necessary to eat fractionally and calculate the amount of food as follows: 80% of all food should be eaten at breakfast and second breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea, and the remaining 20% should be dinner (it should be at least 2 hours before bedtime);
  2. 2 you need to drink a lot of liquid, preferably in the morning and in the evening, drink a glass of vegetable or fruit (berry) juice;
  3. 3 eat more fresh vegetables and fruits (they contain more nutrients), season salads with vegetable oil (sunflower, olive, flaxseed) instead of store dressings, sauces and mayonnaise.

Traditional medicine for astigmatism

In order not to resort to the methods of traditional medicine, it is better to try herbal infusions and therapeutic exercises first.

It is worth using the following recipes:

  • Drink an extract made from grape seeds. It is a potent antioxidant of natural origin that helps to strengthen the functionality of the retina and increase the sensitivity of the eyes.
  • Drink, like tea, a decoction of eyebright (three times a day, half a glass). Important! When taking it, you can not drink alcohol. These two things are not compatible! To prepare a liter of broth, 50-60 grams of chopped and dried herbs will be required, which must be poured with boiling water and infused for 3 hours. Filter. Store in the refrigerator for no more than three days.
  • Drink tinctures, extracts and eat blueberry jam and just fresh berries. You can also drink decoctions from it.
  • Motherwort infusion. Pour 30 grams of grass with 300 milliliters of hot water, leave for 30-40 minutes, pass through cheesecloth. Drink 2-3 tablespoons per day, in several doses. Since motherwort has a sedative effect, it is better to take the broth after an afternoon snack.
  • There are goji berries. Their use improves eye focus and strengthens the retina, thanks to the many amino acids and vitamins (there are about 20 of them in these berries).
  • For 90 days, drink broth (at least 100-200 milliliters), cooked from one hundred grams of ram liver. The liver itself is eaten before lunch or breakfast (as it is more convenient for anyone). Instead of lamb, you can take beef liver, but the effect will be weaker and the course should be longer for a month.
  • Cherry is very useful. You need to eat it all season. You can make eye compresses from its pulp.
  • Useful juices and their mixtures of carrots, beets and cucumbers or carrots (in a ratio of 3 to 1 and 1), parsley, celery, endive (at a rate of 7: 5: 2), or, from carrot juice and spinach juice (two there must be a proportion to one).

To consolidate the result, it is necessary to continuously and daily do gymnastics for the eyes, which includes the following exercises:

  1. 1 Sit on a chair with your back straight. Look down, then up. Repeat 5 times. After that, fix your gaze on a specific subject and try not to be distracted for as long as you can. Then move your gaze left and right. Do it three times.
  2. 2 While in the same position, look at the tip of the nose. Hold your gaze on him while you have strength. After – circle your eyes in different directions. Alternate exercises 5 times.
  3. 3 Close your eyes, massage them, open them, blink. Repeat 3 times (approach for 1 minute).
  4. 4 To train the muscles, first hold the focus on the closest object, then look out the window and hold your gaze on the farthest object. Change your views either to the near or to the distant objects.

Also, the type of astigmatism should be considered. With farsightedness – you need to study and practice the technique for farsightedness, if astigmatism is myopic – for myopia.
