Happiness is not an objective state of a person, but a special feeling or sensation (such as “with a sweet paradise and in a hut”), which is rather difficult to judge from the outside.
Therefore, the exclamation “Here is a lucky man, how lucky he is!” very inaccurate. A man who has just won a million may have buried his mother yesterday. I would describe happiness as an extreme degree of joy. Or a feeling of fullness and richness of life that overwhelms a person. It occurs in different people in different situations and for completely different reasons. The commander is happy because he won the decisive battle, and the little girl is happy because she was given a kitten.
To understand that we manage to realize the abilities given to us by nature and live our lives fruitfully
The concept of «happiness» is used in two different senses. In relation to some point in time or to the whole life or its long period. In my opinion, these are essentially different things. The reason for a momentary, or short-term, feeling of happiness is most often some important accomplishment, a kind of peak, the pinnacle of activity — the achievement of a passionately desired goal, the realization of a dream that is difficult to achieve.
The happiest people have several such peaks. The event itself, which causes an instant feeling of happiness, is different for everyone. For some, this is a declaration of love for a loved one, for others — the acquisition of a long-awaited car, for others — academic success, career growth, public recognition. An acute feeling of happiness, as a rule, comes suddenly, covers you like a wave, and then gradually rolls back. But this moment is remembered for a long time, sometimes for a lifetime, and is perceived as one of its peaks. Happiness is also «higher» or «long-term».
This is an almost constant feeling that rarely leaves a person. It is based on the understanding that we have managed to realize the abilities given by God or nature, to live fruitfully. Mentally, we summarize all the successful aspects of our lives: worthy results of work or well-behaved children and grandchildren, a successful career or material wealth, acquaintance with the world and cultural values, or good relations with loved ones.
Such an addition operation is worth doing — it gives us a feeling of a life well lived and turns us into SUSTAINABLE happy people. We become stronger, stronger, and therefore much more ready to meet life’s sorrows and troubles.
