6 things to know about chocolate
It is toxic to our pets
Chocolate contains theobromine, a molecule that makes up cocoa. This substance is toxic to our pets because it is poorly assimilated by their liver.
Symptoms of toxic chocolate ingestion in dogs are as follows: restlessness, vomiting, diarrhea, frequent urination, gasping for air, even convulsions and heart rhythm disturbances.
Dark chocolate, which is richer in cocoa and therefore in theobromine, is the most dangerous. 4 squares of dark chocolate are enough to poison a medium-sized dog. On the other hand, white chocolate is almost non-toxic because it contains very little theobromine. In any case, it is better not to give chocolate to a dog.
