10 awful things women endure during childbirth

Then, already leaving home, young mothers say that God is with them, with torment, the main thing is that the baby here he is, dear, has finally been born. The negative is gradually erased, but never goes away to the end.

1. Opening manually

On women’s forums, every second woman complains that the doctor, during the examination, tried to manually increase the degree of cervical dilatation. And these memories torment for a long time: the pain is so hellish that even the fights before it fade away. Anesthesia had not yet been done by this time. The situation is aggravated by the fact that often obstetricians behave, to put it mildly, unfriendly: they do not explain what they are doing and why, do not warn that it may be painful. Moreover, they can shout – they say, do not shout.

2. Enema

Now in maternity hospitals, little by little, they give up this practice – the obligatory enema before childbirth. Previously, it was believed that this procedure is necessary in the name of compliance with sanitary and hygienic standards. But recent studies have shown that there is no difference – what is with an enema, what is not. And many women in labor know how this procedure can be unpleasant and humiliating. Yes, and even scary – it seems that you will give birth right in the toilet.

3. Contractions

They are much more painful than, in fact, childbirth – if everything goes well, without excesses. Contractions last for hours, exhausting, becoming more painful every hour. At the same time, contractions are not always allowed to wait out as it is more convenient for the woman in labor: they are forced to lie in one position under CTG. Moreover, they can be scolded if the sensors have moved out – but how will you lie motionless here, when the pain covers your eyes with a veil.

4. An incompetent anesthesiologist

“Sit like this. No, that’s it. Don’t move ”- commands that are sometimes simply impossible to execute. As a result, the needle for epidural anesthesia goes in the wrong place over and over again, the doctor manages to get to the right place from the third or fourth time. Of course, this does not happen every time. But if you are “lucky” – you will not envy. And if you add to this even more terrible stories about complications after anesthesia …

5. Epiziotomy

If the child is large, then an incision is made in the perineum to avoid ruptures: it is much easier to sew up an even incision, it will be easier to heal. But it doesn’t make it any nicer. Some mothers complain that episiotomy is done almost profitably, without pain relief. And then they sew up anyhow, then the torment begins with the seams. And in any case, it is forbidden to sit after such interference. You have to feed the child lying down, eat – whatever you like, even while standing.

6. Breaks

Also, unfortunately, not uncommon. It is hardly possible to imagine what a woman experiences when tissues are torn. Sometimes after childbirth, dozens of stitches have to be applied, sometimes they do it, again, judging by the complaints on the forums, without anesthesia. Such seams can heal for months.

7. Secondary contractions

They can be as painful as the contractions themselves. When the uterus begins to contract, the abdomen begins to ache again, as if the birth had gone in a second round. At the same time, you cannot take painkillers if you are breastfeeding – but in the maternity hospital they still make attempts to establish breastfeeding, if the situation does not go beyond the usual. Fortunately, they pass quickly – they are normal.

8. Manual separation of the placenta

Usually, the placenta leaves by itself about 5-30 minutes after the baby is born. But if it grows into the muscle layer of the uterus, doctors have to forcefully separate it. The procedure is usually performed under general anesthesia. It is not difficult, but anesthesia is anesthesia, an intervention is an intervention. But, if this is not done, then you will have to do curettage of the uterus, and this is many times worse.

9. Stimulation by oxytocin

When there is evidence, the procedure is completely justified. The fact is that if the contractions have been going on for a long time, but there is still no disclosure, then the mother is exhausted, and then she simply does not have the strength to give birth. And the waterless period lasts too long, which is bad for the health of the baby. Oxytocin is used to speed up labor. The contractions start to build up very quickly. And they become very painful, much more painful than without oxytocin.

10. Rudeness of staff

Not only is it painful and scary, but you are still rude, “poked”, yelling, they do not explain anything. And it seemed that these people were here to help! “Didn’t it hurt to get pregnant? That’s when it was necessary to yell! ” – such phrases, and even worse, unfortunately, are not uncommon. I would like to believe that someday the attitude towards pregnant women and women in labor will change. But this is a painfully slow process.
